C to C Celebrates Year of the Boar

Culture to Culture Foundation celebrated Chinese New Year on February 17, 2019 at Danville's Oak Hill Park

On Feb 17, Culture to Culture Foundation partnered with the Town of Danville Senior Center to celebrate Chinese New Year at Oak Hill Park Community Center. Over 120 guests and volunteers attended the celebration. Among the guests included Town of Danville Mayor Robert Storer; Vice Mayor Karen Stepper; Council Members Rene Morgan and Newell Arnerich. Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen attended with her Chief of Staff Gayle Israel. After a few words of welcome, the Town of Danville Council presented C to C Founder Chia-Chia Chien with the honorary citizenship of Danville.

The festivities began with the exciting lion dance and followed by the awe-inspiring martial arts demonstrations by students from the Kung Fu Dragon USA School in Pleasanton. The dancers from Shiao-Pai Dance School in Pleasanton performed a beautiful traditional Chinese folk dance. The guests were then treated to a delicious buffet lunch that included a whole roasted pig. After lunch, the Town of Danville Senior Center Program Supervisor Leah Madonich recognized Culture to Culture volunteer instructors for their services with beautiful bamboo plants and an orchid plant to Chia-Chia. The second half of entertainment began with the C to C Singers singing a popular Chinese New Year song accompanied by the Ukulele Strummers led by Jeff Lynch. Jeff's ukulele band played and sang two additional songs to the audience's delight. Line dancers in Reg Kwan and Bonnie Braga's classes entertained the audience with a few lively dances. In between the line dances, Rosemarie Ramos and her Hula Dancers performed two beautiful hula dances. Reg Kwan led everyone to more line dancing to close out the fun and enjoyable event.
